Not everywhere in the world are children lucky enough to grow up safe, secure and carefree. I realize this every time I visit Brazil, my second home. Above all, however, it also made me want to help make things better for the children there. In 2023, I got to know Dorothee’s project in São Paulo. I was immediately impressed to see how lovingly everyone at “Reconciliação” works day in, day out to put a smile on the faces of the children in their care despite the difficult circumstances. I would like to work with Dorothee to ensure that this continues to be possible.

When I visited the group of street children in Congo for the first time, I was deeply impressed: although you could see that life on the streets had left its mark on them, they all had an incredible energy within them. Our approach is to use this energy so that they can create a better future for themselves. And while the children often don’t make eye contact at first, are violent and can barely concentrate, after just a few weeks their talents as filigree draughtsmen, meticulous seamstresses, stage stars or diligent maths artists become apparent. The fact that this change is possible in every single child gives me hope and shows what a difference our support can make for many children.
