
A journey through 25 years of projects
Over the past 25 years, help alliance has supported over 200 projects in 65 different countries. This series of pictures takes you on a fascinating journey of discovery through a selection of the diverse initiatives and achieved goals that have shaped help alliance. From the humble beginnings of very small projects to the biggest milestones in the organization’s history to date, each project tells its own story of vision, challenge and success. Join us on this visual journey through time and be inspired by the impressive projects of the last 25 years.

1999 – India
Already in the first year, nine projects are supported, including the Tara Section project, which assists Tibetans living in exile in India.

2000 – Worldwide
One year later, the project portfolio has grown to twelve projects: one project each in Latin America and Europe, and five projects each in Asia and Africa. A special feature is the Family Singers project, which operates in India, Zambia, and Eastern Europe.

2001 – Nigeria
With over €25,000 in support, the Obizi People Medical Center project in Nigeria is the largest in 2001. The aim is to secure healthcare for the population. In the following years, the project will be expanded to include educational and training aspects.

2002 – India
One of the latest projects is the Breads project in India, which supports street children in Bangalore.

2003 – Kenya
The joint project with Freundeskreis Ostafrikahilfe gets the highest financial support in 2003 and is a bush hospital in Kenya.

2004 – Thailand
An orphanage in Pattaya, Thailand, has already been supported for three years. In the following years the cooperation will increase and place a strong focus on child protection.

2005 – Tsunami in Southeast Asia
After the devastating tsunami, help alliance provides emergency and reconstruction aid in Southeast Asia.

2006 – Senegal
With the opening of the Keur Mame Fatim Konté center in Saint Louis, Senegal, women are able to complete three different training courses here, there is a kindergarten, and street children receive school lessons twice a week.

2007 – Brazil
With four projects, help alliance is becoming increasingly active in Latin America. These include the SEARA project in Brazil, which provides care for 140 children in a daycare center. In the following years, a vocational training center was built for the mothers.

2008 – Ghana
help alliance equips the school at Kinderparadise in Ghana with computers. Additionally, the construction of a kindergarten begins in fall.

2009 – India
10th anniversary! help alliance now supports over 30 projects worldwide. One of the latest projects is the Sunshine Project in New Delhi, which runs an after-school care center that has provided care for 117 children. Over the next few years, the project can be expanded to support around 265 children.

2010 – Benin
In April 2010, the newly built girls’ home in Djougou in Benin is opened. Thirty young women, who receive no support from their families because of their gender, find a safe environment and good learning conditions here.

2011 – Sri Lanka
Various construction measures are implemented at the Hope Center for children with mental and physical disabilities in Sri Lanka. Over 4,000 hours of work are contributed with great commitment from members of the center, teachers, parents, and older children.

2012 – Vietnam
A new curriculum for children with special needs is introduced in Vietnam, which is now used in over 90% of special schools nationwide.

2013 – Kenya
A fire devastated the buildings of Lulu High School in our Watoto project in Kenya. Thanks to an emergency aid campaign, reconstruction begins just one week after the disaster, and all buildings are repaired by the end of the year.

2014 – Haiti
Five years after the severe earthquake, the first entrepreneurship camp is held in Haiti. Young people are motivated to set up their own companies by being taught the relevant know-how and supported in building up their businesses. Thanks to the voluntary support of many young Lufthansa employees, the pilot project is a complete success.

2015 – Germany
In Germany, numerous Lufthansa employees volunteer in various projects as interpreters, mentors, or learning mentors – for example, at basis und woge in Hamburg.

2016 – Jordan
The catch-up school in Azraq, Jordan, offers 100 children who fled the civil war in Syria a regular daily routine through school lessons following the Syrian curriculum.

2017 – India
A film team from RTL visits a boarding school run by the Patenschaftskreis Indien project in Madhya Pradesh. The aim is to collect donations for the project to enable further educational opportunities in the coming years.

2018 – South Africa
In Cape Town, the first 105 pupils are enrolled in the newly built iThemba Primary School. In the following years, more classrooms and a preschool are built, so that around 1,200 children can now be educated.

2019 – Kenya
The Happy Child Education Center, a school for 100 children, is opened in Kenya.

2020 – Brazil
The coronavirus pandemic restrictes and hamperes the work of projects in many places. However, our local project partners react quickly to the changed conditions and provide prompt help. For example, the youth center in Sao Lourenco da Mata (Brazil) helps people without internet access to apply for state support and distributes food to the local population.

2021 – The Gambia
After two years of ‘rubber boots, sweat, and soil,’ the first 33 graduates finish their training in The Gambia.

2022 – India
The new Girls Shelter is inaugurated in Dehradun, India. The new building provides 200 girls with a safe home.

2023 – Cameroon
For the first time, seven Lufthansa Start Technik Trainees travel to Cameroon to support young adults in providing high-quality services and generating sustainable income.

2024 – Togo
The training center built by help alliance is inaugurated in Devikimmé, Togo. It will offer up to 100 young people high-quality training in the future.
